Following on from Wednesday’s post about Ireland, I’ve got a couple more eating places to recommend.

The first is in Lahinch the area’s surfing paradise.   Well, I don’t surf and the huge crashing waves look pretty scary to me, but there are always plenty of surfers in the water, so I guess it’s good!

And if you have been surfing (or just walking, shopping or drinking coffee), you’re going to need feeding up.  So the best place to go is to Danny Mac’s, Main Street.  It’s comfy with seating arranged in booths, friendly and laid back.  And the food is good and comes in BIG portions.  We thought we were having a light lunch ordering a toasted sandwich with chips and a jacket potato with spicy beans, but we ended up rolling out of the place.  The food was freshly cooked with care and we’re looking forward to going back to try more of the menu.

It was later the same day that we met up with an old friend in Ennis, the county town of Clare, and she introduced us to The Beehive Cafe at 31 O’Connell Street.  Apparently there was an older, fondly remembered cafe called the Beehive in Ennis, which was run by the present owner’s mother!  The cafe is light with stunning black and white photographs on the wall, and I had a lovely goat’s cheese salad, with a good selection of different salads and served with some home made brown soda bread.  Perfect after a filling lunch!
